Wilkerson an M
According to USS Mariner, Seattle signed Brad Wilkerson. That probably means the Bedard trade is happening.
Update: Wilkerson gets $3 million for one year. I like Wilkerson and I hope he is healthy and rebounds from his last two down years.

The State of Bedard
We know nothing, as Roch Kubatko tells us:
Meanwhile, just to recap: Half the nation believes the Orioles and Mariners are within minutes of completing a trade. The other half believes the trade is being held up while team president Andy MacPhail attempts to negotiate a long-term deal with Bedard.

C.C. Sees C-Notes
Jim Ingraham notes that one person benefiting greatly from the Santana trade is C.C. Sabathia:
I’m no NASCAR expert, but I am familiar with the principle in auto racing called ”drafting,” in which a car sits behind the leader, benefiting by the lack of wind resistance.
That’s Sabathia right now. He’s drafting Santana. Both pitchers are eligible [...]

Follow the Butterflies
Garrett Broshuis gets in touch with his inner Ron Weasley:
A few days ago, I thought spring had arrived in St. Louis. It was 70 degrees and I was walking around without a jacket, frolicking through a meadow while chasing butterflies. (OK, so there weren’t really butterflies and I wasn’t really frolicking, but I was walking [...]

Inside the Deal
Bob Klapisch details the inner workings of the Santana deal:
This was late Monday night, about 12 hours before the Mets would pounce upon their most dramatic trade in recent history. Twins’ general manager Bill Smith, in a panic to move Johan Santana, called the Yankees and admitted surrender: Phil Hughes was no longer a prerequisite, [...]

Adding Wins
How many wins does Johan Santana add to the Mets in 2008? It depends on who Johan is replacing. If you assume he’s pushing likely fifth starter Mike Pelfrey out of the rotation, then it’s a huge boost. Baseball Prospects (subscription required) rated Pelfrey at 0.5 wins above replacement in 2007. [...]

Breaking Down the Santana Trade
Aaron Gleeman looks at the details of the Santana trade.
In a perfect world Santana would christen the new ballpark with an Opening Day start in 2010 and wear a Twins cap on his Hall of Fame plaque, but for whatever reason his remaining in Minnesota never seemed to be a legitimate option once the trade [...]

Discussing Clemens

Pettitte and McNamee talked in 2001 and 2002 about Roger Clemens’s use of steroids and human growth hormone, McNamee’s lawyers, Earl Ward and Richard Emery, said Tuesday.
They said that Pettitte, who has acknowledged receiving H.G.H. from McNamee in 2002, will provide the first account of contemporaneous conversations with McNamee [...]

The Clemens Report
My latest SportingNews.com column finds the report by Clemens’s agent misleading. I think they had a chance to make a good case for Roger here, but by cherry picking data, they end up giving the opposite impression.

$100 Million Not Enough
