Loss of Control

Garrett Richards lost his control here in the bottom of the fourth inning. He faced the minimum through the first three innings, giving up a single that the batter failed to stretch into a double. While pitching to Denard Span, leading off the inning, Richards threw two to the backstop, walking Span. He was wild to Bryce Harper and walked him, then hit Jayson Werth. The Nationals take a 1-0 lead on a ground out by Adam LaRoche. We’ll see if Richards can find the plate again.

So far, Mike Trout is 1 for 2 with a K, Harper 0 for 1 with a K and a walk.

Update: Richards gets two more ground balls and gets out of the inning allowing just the one run. Albert Pujols and Chris Iannetta made a nice play to throw Harper out at the plate.
