Sitting on 500

Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer in the top of the first, helping the Angels to an early 4-0 lead over the Nationals. That was gives Pujols 499 homers for his career. He’ll be the 26th player to reach the 500 plateau if and when he hits his next dinger. With a good season he could pass Mickey Mantle for 16th by the end of the season.

Update: Albert goes deep in the top of the fifth inning, a two-run shot that gives the Angels a 6-2 lead. Congratulations to Albert on reaching 500 home runs! He has the 8th most home runs through age 34.

Completely regretting throwing out my 1980s Bill James’ Abstracts. What’s Albert’s chance at slugging 300 more home runs? A-Rod isn’t going to do it.

rbj » Favorite toy is here. Albert played 2013 as a 33 year old, so he would have 4.2 seasons remaining. His established level for home runs in 24 2/3. So that gives him 104 projected home runs. That’s not enough to give him a positive probability of reaching 800.
