More Late Offense

The Angels and Indians took a page out of the Twins/Red Sox playbook, waiting for extra innings to score most of their runs. The teams went into the 10th inning tied at one, after C.J. Wilson and Justin Masterson matched seven innings with a run allowed. Albert Pujols singled in two runs in the top of the inning to give the Angels some insurance, but Nick Swisher hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the inning to win it. The Indians are now just 2 1/2 games out of first in the AL Central with the Royals losing to Detroit.

The slam was the ninth of Swisher’s career. Nick actually seems to try for the big hit with the bases loaded, as his OBP goes down, but his batting average goes up, and his slugging percentage goes way up. Twenty of his 37 hits with the bases loaded went for extra bases.
