Games of the Day

Two first place teams square off in Detroit as Oakland sends Scott Kazmir against one of the Tiger aces, Anibal Sanchez. June has been Kazmir’s best month for strikeouts this season, with 31 so far i 29 1/3 innings. Sanchez continues to be tough to hit, with opponents batting .189 and slugging .296 against him. The right hander is particularly tough on lefties this season, with a .168/.225/.248 slash line allowed. The two met earlier this season, Sanchez pitching slightly better. Scott got the complete game win, however, as Joe Nathan blew the save.

Mat Latos makes his fourth start of the season, taking on his old team as the Reds battle the Padres and Jesse Hahn. Latos’s injury did not hurt his control as he walked just three batters in 18 2/3 innings since his return from the disabled list. Hahn is blowing away batters in his rookie year with 27 K in his first 22 2/3 innings.

Just a mention, Yohan Flande of the Rockies and Yohan Pino of the Twins both make starts today. This will be the first time two pitchers name Yohan pitched in any capacity on the same day in the major leagues.

Enjoy!
