Trading the Master

The Indians, 6 1/2 games out in the division and five games out in the wild card, traded starting pitcher Justin Masterson to the Cardinals:

In return, Cleveland will receive minor league outfielder James Ramsey, the Cardinals’ first-round draft choice in 2012.

Ramsey is hitting extremely well at AA this season, and maybe the Indians thought a good starter was worth giving up for a great prospect. Masterson was not pitching that well for the Tribe, and the Indians needed outfield help. Maybe they bring Ramsey up right away. At age 24, he’s certainly not a young prospect.

Masterson certainly gives the Cardinals some depth for the stretch run. His strong suit is keeping the ball in the park, and the last two seasons he upped his K rate.

Cleveland fans seem very positive about the trade.

Somebody at work made this connection:
    Justin Masterson
    Bat Masterson
    Batman
    Commissioner Gordon
    Gordon Ramsey
    James Ramsey

Seems like we should have seen this trade coming all along

IkeG » I love it! It reminds me of a Rams-Cowboys game in the early 1980s with following players:

    Tony Dorset
    Tony Hill
    Drew Hill
    Drew Pearson
    Preston Pearson
    Preston Denard
