Double Perfecto

Jake Peavy and Jacob deGrom each retired the first 12 batters they faced as both the Giants and Mets are looking for the first hit and base runner of the game.

Update: Brandon Belt draws a walk with two out in the fifth. No perfect game for the Mets.

Update: deGrom gets a grounder to end the inning and preserve the Mets no hitter. Peavy will try to remain perfect.

Update: Peavy retires the Mets in order in the fifth. Both teams are scoreless and still looking for their first hits.

Update: deGrom retires the Giant in order rather quickly in the sixth inning. His pitch count is 74, and he’s only thrown 20 called balls.

Update: According the broadcast, deGrom had a hit overturned by video review. Of course, if video review existed a few years ago, Johan Santana’s no-hitter would have been overturned as well.

There’s been some good defense on both sides in this game. Hunter Pence just made a nice sliding catch in the bottom of the sixth to snag a foul ball.

Update: Eric Young strikes out when the third base umpire rings him up on a checked swing. The Mets are using a pitcher batting eighth lineup, and Young is batting ninth. Peavy remains perfect through six innings.

Update: Pablo Sandoval doubles with two out in the seventh to break up deGrom’s no hitter. Bartolo Colon recently lost a Mets no hitter with two out in the seventh as well.

Update: That’s all the Giants get as the game remains scoreless.

Update: Curtis Granderson falls a few feet short of a home run as he flies out deep to right-center for the first out in the seventh.

Update: Daniel Murphy takes advantage of Mike Morse’s poor defense. Murphy sends a low fly ball to left, and Morse starts in. By the time he realizes it’s going deep, he can’t get back in time, and Daniel gets a double. Both no hitters are gone.

David Wright then dumps a single in front of Morse, and the Mets have men on first and third with one out.

Update: Peavy hits Lucas Duda to load the bases.

Update: Travis d’Arnaud delivers a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game.

Update: Juan Lagares hits the next pitch for a single, and the Mets lead 2-0.

Update: WILMER!!! Wilmer Flores doubles in two more runs, and thinks are falling apart for Jake Peavy. Keith Hernandez blames Pablo Sandoval having a cut attended to after running into a fence trying to make a catch. Hernandez said at the time that Sandoval should get back on the field so his pitcher didn’t lose his rhythm, and get the cut attended after the inning. I suspect it was more than a cut, however.

Update: deGrom strikes out to end the inning. He’ll come out for the eighth to work on his shutout.
