Pre-Peak Climb

Jose Altuve‘s contract extension looks extremely good, as his four for five day against the Red Sox raised his slash line to .339/.374/.447, the .339 leading the American League. At just 24 years old, Altuve is a year away from reaching his peak period of seasonal ages 25 to 29. He hit like this in the minors, which is why he didn’t stay their long. He’s now maturing into the hitter the Astros hoped he would be, and should return a great deal of residual value to the team by the time the contract expires. FanGraphs rates this season as worth $19 million so far, most of the value of the six year, $24 million contract he signed.

Houston beat Boston 8-1.
