Games of the Day

The Cubs and Mets finish their weekend series with a Monday afternoon game as Kyle Hendricks takes on Bartolo Colon. The 24-year-old Hendricks looks like part of the Cubs future, as he walked just nine and allowed two home runs in 41 2/3 innings, helping him to a 1.73 ERA so far. Colon The 41-year-old Colon is still effective walking just 21 batters in 161 1/3 innings.

The Pirates come home to the Braves, tied at 1 1/2 games out of the second wild card slot after the Braves swept the Athletics and the Nationals swept Pittsburgh. Ervin Santana faces Vance Worley. Santana is keeping the Braves in the race, with a 5-0 record and 2.70 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break. Worley pitched well in Pittsburgh so far, with a 2.00 ERA and just two home runs allowed in 27 home innings.

Update: Carlos Torres starts for the Mets, as Bartolo Colon flew home to be with his mother.

Colon’s mother is critically ill and he is flying home to be with her, Terry Collins said.

Here is hoping all turns out for the best for Colon’s mother.
