The Mariners and Phillies finish their interleague series with a nice pitching match-up as “Just Win” James Paxton takes on Cole Hamels. Paxton is 6-0 in nine career starts with a 1.88 ERA thanks to terrific walk and strikeout numbers. Hamels has been hurt by the Phillies lack of offense the last two seasons, going 14-20 despite a 3.13 ERA. According to assigned wins, Hamels should be 8-4 this season, 11-13 last year.
The Reds try to keep their playoff hopes alive after losing to the Cardinals on a walk-off Hit by Pitch Tuesday night. Ace Johnny Cueto takes on Lance Lynn of St. Louis. Cueto allowed just four of his 16 home runs on the road this season. Lynn’s improvement in ERA came from reducing his home run rate, allowing 0.4 HR every nine innings.
