A Move that Worked

The Yankees get a much needed win as Brandon McCarthy shuts out the Astros on four hits, 3-0. McCarthy is now 5-2 with a 1.90 ERA since changing teams. With the Yankees sputtering offense, they need pitchers who can totally shutdown the opposition, and so far McCarthy has mostly done just that. He has now walked seven and struck out 51 batters in 52 innings, allowing three home runs.

The Yankees are nine games back in the division as the Orioles flew away from the crowd. Cleveland, New York, and Toronto are all 4 1/2 games back of the second wild card with the Indians playing and currently trailing the Twins 3-1. With plenty of competition for the wild card (two teams ahead of this pack), making the playoffs for New York will not be an easy task unless they start smacking the ball.
