Games of the Day

The Giants fight for a playoff spot as they face the streaking Nationals with Tim Hudson taking on Doug Fister. Hudson is posting his best ERA since 2010, 3.03, but only has an 8-9 record to show for it. Fister started six fewer games, but owns a 12-3 record. With 11 homers and 14 walks allowed so far, he has a shot at allowing more homers than walks.

The Pirates cold streak left them six games behind the Brewers as they open a series in Milwaukee. Jeff Locke battles Yovani Gallardo. Locke held the Brewers to one run in seven innings in his one start against them this season, but took the loss. Gallardo made four starts against the Pirates so far. His 2.49 ERA has been good for just a 1-0 record in those games.

Finally, the Angels lead the Athletics by two games as they open a series in Oakland. Hector Santiago takes on Sonny Gray. Santiago is 1-7 in 17 starts this season, although he hasn’t lost since the All-Star break. Gray is 0-4 in August after a 5-0 July. Balls in play against him are finding holes this month.

Enjoy!

I was cursing you tonight as I watched Fister give up 2 homers and 1 walk for my Nats. Now why’d you have to go and say that?
