Games of the Day

The Indians host the Twins in a traditional afternoon double-header as Kyle Gibson faces Corey Kluber in game one and Ricky Nolasco takes on T.J. House in game two. Given the difference in ERAs between the Twins and Indians starters, Cleveland should have a very good chance of sweeping the two games. Nolasco is posting the highest single season ERA of his career. His low walk rate should have fit into the Twins organization just fine, but opponents in the AL used his tendency to be around the plate to hit .327 against him with a .532 slugging percentage.

Scott Kazmir takes on Chris Sale in an outstanding match-up as the Athletics finish their series with the White Sox. Kazmir struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings in his last start, reversing an August trend of lower strikeout numbers. Sale lowered his ERA by a run over last year by dramatically cutting his home run rate.

The Rays and Yankees finish their series with Alex Cobb facing Michael Pineda. Cobb owns a 1.27 ERA since the All-Star break, with 66 strikeouts and 16 walks in 64 innings. He has not allowed a home run since July. Pineda walked just four batters in 50 innings this season.
