Spaceman in Vermont

An old friend sends along this link about The Burlington Cardinals winning the Vermont Men’s Senior Baseball League Championship.

Played at Montpelier’s Rec Field in perfect baseball weather this game featured an incredible pitching duel between the Cardinals’ Bill Lee and the Bison’s Gary MacDonald. Both the pitching and the stellar defensive play by both teams made for a remarkable baseball game. A special note of appreciation is due to Bill and “Mac” for their performances.

Yes, it’s that Bill Lee, the former Major League pitcher. As my friend writes:

Friends play in a senior baseball league up here with Bill Lee. They won the state championship last week…and 68-year-old Lee pitches a 1-hitter…two pitches away from a perfect game.

I asked one of my friends if Bill was tripping…he said, “No, but when he came off the field after the 8th inning he looked at me and sad, ‘Patrick…..I’m sucking on bong water.'”

The spaceman still has it.

I hope in 40 years someone is sending me a similar story about Tim Lincecum. 🙂
