Of course, the difference in runs isn’t that great. Using the Marcel projections, the lineup with Bonifacio first and Maybin eighth yields 4.62 runs per game. If you flip the two in the order, it calculates out to 4.68 runs per game. Over 162 games, that’s about 10 runs, or one win. The Marlins can’t really afford to give up one win that easily.

plans to bat Emilio Bonifacio first instead of Cameron Maybin. There is no way this makes sense if you look at their major and minor league careers as a whole. Given that Gonzalez batted Maybin last Friday, I assume he’ll hit 8th in the Marlins order, not even serving as a second leadoff man.
