How many teams start a first baseman who hits like a catcher, and a catcher who hits like a first baseman? Mike Napoli should be a huge advantage for the Angels, but they nullify the strength by continuing to fail to find a first baseman who can hit. Failing to land Mark Teixeira doesn’t mean you give up on other, cheaper possibilities.
Maybe Napoli has catching skills that make the pitchers a little better. That would justify his staying a catcher.
I wasn’t suggest the Angels move Napoli to first. I was suggesting they find a first baseman who can hit.

Such as … who?
Morales hasn’t had 1,000 major league at-bats yet, though given how he’s swinging, he might not get them, either. He might be a quadruple-A player, or he might be something better. I’m willing to give him the chance.
Devon Young clearly hasn’t seen Napoli behind the dish. His catching skills are adequate.
