The Pirates lose their catcher for a couple of months:
Pirates catchter Ryan Doumit will miss 8-10 weeks because of surgery he will have performed on his right wrist Thursday. The wrist has a minimially displaced fracture of the scaphoid bone, which will have pins inserted.
My daughter broke that bone, but didn’t need surgery. She just spent the summer up to her shoulder in a cast.
It’s a very important bone due to having only one blood vessel flowing through it. Because of that, it’s important for it to heal correctly.
