    • We all know what a night out at the ballpark costs. While it may be "priceless", it's anything but that when the credit card bill arrives. A cash advance can help.

    Phantom DL

Via Peter Abraham, Jayson Stark examines some of the disablements that seemed to be for phantom injuries. Peter has his favorite Cashman quote from the piece, but I like this one better:

But Brian Cashman said, “I’ve never once called the commissioner’s office and said anybody’s injury wasn’t legit. If a physician who took an oath is willing to sign the certification, that’s good enough for me. I’m not looking to run around questioning what any other team is doing. I don’t have time for that.”

It turns out the commissioner’s office is a lot more involved in this than I thought, which makes these injuries appear to be legitimate.

“Players are like pets sometimes,” the GM said. “If they don’t express themselves properly or fully, it’s all guesswork trying to figure out what’s really going on.”

That’s another pretty good quote from the Start piece.
