Johnny Cueto and Jair Jurrjens came into the evening ranked third and fourth in the NL in ERA. Jurrjens moved up tonight, pitching seven strong innings against the Rockies. His one run allowed on eight strikeouts and three walks lowered his ERA to 1.96.
Cueto, meanwhile, battled Cole Hamels, but came down on the losing side. Johnny allowed four runs in seven innings walking none but giving up seven hits. That raised his ERA to 2.35 Hamels pitched one inning less, allowing one fewer run, and the Philadelphia bullpen finished with three scoreless innings for a 4-3 victory. Cueto may drop to seventh in the NL depending on Billingley’s outing on the west coast.
