Tuesday the Boston bullpen could not stop an Orioles comeback. Wednesday the Baltimore pen returned the favor. Brad Bergesen pitched eight strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits, no walks and six strikeouts. He comes out after 103 pitches with Jim Johnson starting the ninth holding a 5-1 lead. He walked the first batter and gave up a home run to Youkilis to cut the lead to 5-3. That brought in the closer, Sherrill, who gives up two hits and three walks, the Red Sox tying the game at two.
Then with Ellsbury on third and one out in the 11th, Julio Lugo singled through a drawn in infield to break the 5-5 tie. Papelbon finished the game for the 6-5 Boston win. Boston relievers were as opposite as they could be from Tuesday as they pitched four perfect innings. Beckett gave up all five runs in the first four innings. After a Wigginton homer leading off the fourth, Josh retired the next 12 batters, giving the Red Sox pitchers 24 straight batters retired to end the game.

I’m a Sox fan & I was at this game & Sherrill had Veritek fanned for game ending K but ump wouldn’t call it & wouldn’t ask 1B ump so Veritek got ball 4 call & Baldelli’s clutch hit tied it. In 3rd inning Pedroia continued past second on a double for an inexcuseable out at 3B. He or coach Hale should be severely criticized for that gaffe. J. Bay got Golden Sombrero 5 Ks at bat yet made marvelous diving catch to end an inning. A complete player.
