Joey Votto appears to have beaten his demons. He went 4 for 6 Thursday afternoon against the Diamondbacks. In the ninth, a single moved Hairston into scoring position with none out, then two ground outs were able to bring him around to score and tie the game. Then in the tenth, the Reds loaded the bases with no one out. Nix struck out and Hairston flied out, but not deep enough to score the runner from third. Votto came up and singled in the winning run as the Reds took the game 3-2.
He’s 15 for 38, .395 since returning from being on the disabled list with stress problems. The Reds are 5-4 since his return. Overall, the Reds are 25-22 with him, 14-16 without him. In a very tight NL Central, that injury may loom large in the Reds final place in the standings.
