Teams are celebrating the 70th anniversary of Lou Gehrig’s farewell by reading his speech at their ballparks. Peter Abraham notes the Yankees celebration.
My dad was at the game and heard the speech. I asked him about it today, and he says he doesn’t remember much. He went with his best friend, John Puskar, who was briefly a Cardinals prospect. The thing he still remembers is Babe Ruth at the game. Dad was too young to have seen Ruth play in person, so that was a big deal to him.
