David DeJesus hits well for a Royals player. His career OBA of .354 and slugging percentage of .422 won’t win him any awards, but they make him a useful player. The Red Sox, however, turned him into Mario Mendoza. DeJesus’s career numbers against the Red Sox come in at .214/.297/.359, showing once again that anything can happen in 100 at bats.
DeJesus did rise to the occasion Thursday night, however. He capped a sixth inning rally with a two run homer, giving the Royals a lead they would not relinquish. He’s now hitting .351 in July, trying to turn around the worst numbers of his career.
The 8-6 Royals win puts the Red Sox back into a tie with the Yankees in the AL East. Since their last sweep of the Yankees, both teams played well, with Boston going 15-10, the Yankees 17-8.
