Joe Mauer .400 Watch

Monday came in as a good night for the Twins but a poor one for Joe Mauer. Minnesota squeaked by the Orioles 2-1 as Scott Baker threw seven strong innings, allowing just one run on one walk and five strikeouts. With the White Sox losing to the Red Sox 12-8, the Twins are just one game back of Chicago for second place in the AL Central.

Joe Mauer, however, went 0 for 4 as the Twins collected just six hits on the night. The catcher’s average drops to .374. He still projects to 523 at bats on the season and needs 209 total hits to reach .400. Mauer needs to go 65 for 138, a .471 batting average. The odds of him doing that are between 1 in 8800 to 1 in 12400.
