Homer Bailey lived up to the hype tonight as he pitched eight shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers as the Reds won the game 4-2. Bailey gave up seven hits, all singles, while walking one and striking out seven. He threw strikes, kept batters off balance, and struck out enough batters to help his offense, everything a team wants in a pitcher. That’s two good outings in a row after three poor ones to start the month. Allowing one run to the Pirates in seven innings is nice, but shutting out the Dodgers for eight shows there’s something exciting there.
