To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mets winning the World Series (10/16/69), LIFE.com presents this gallery of never-before-published Mets photos taken by LIFE photographer Co Rentmeester during a Mets-Pirates game that summer.
The never-before-published photos of the ‘69 Mets team (featuring names like Seaver, Grote, Agee, Hodges, Harrelson, Clendenon, and others that still make Mets fans hearts race) were taken the summer before they beat the heavily favored Orioles, won the Series, and were crowned “The Miracle Mets.” In this series of photos, LIFE photographer Co captured the team’s endearing mix of intensity and casual, low-key confidence just weeks before the playoffs.
