Frank McCourt fired his wife from her job as the Dodgers’ chief executive:
“Jamie is disappointed and saddened by her termination,” attorney Dennis Wasser said this afternoon. “As co-owner of the Dodgers, she will address this and all other issues in the courtroom.”
Wasser would not say whether Jamie McCourt would continue to occupy her office at Dodger Stadium. He said that would depend on the outcome of legal proceedings he expected to initiate “in the next couple weeks.”
The person who said the gloves were off was absolutely right. I’m sorry, but this it going to be a lot more interesting than the ESPN sex scandals (I’ve lived through those). At stake is the control of one of the major sports franchises in the country, and a return of a woman to the ranks of the owners. Unlike Jean Yawkey, Joan Kroc and Marge Schott, she would not inherit the team. And unlike Joan Payson, McCourt is a trained business woman with an MBA from MIT. I’d like to see her get the team, just to see how she runs it on her own.

I wonder what effect this will have on the Dodgers’ off-season. Is every player decision going to have to be run past the judge? It could have an effect on how much money there is to be split up.
