Via Redleg Nation, Alex Anthopoulos is turning the Jays front office 180 degrees from J.P. Ricciardi. He is going to expand the scouting department and make their quality of life better with more money and more days off. He’s going to use eyeballs where Ricciardi used computers.

Why, exactly, does it have to be either/or?
My sense is that the data analysis part of this could be done by one person and with the appropriate databases, most of which already exist. Call it maybe $250K to establish a data analysis program.

Really, there shouldn’t be tension here. Having computer-based information systems inform one’s decision making doesn’t mean making your scouts’ lives hell.
Personally, I don’t grok, at all, why this is a problem. The amounts of money involved here are literally an order of magnitude less than a major league payroll. Just throw money at the problem until you have both scouting and stats.
