Eliezer Alfonzo played as a reserve catcher for the San Diego Padres in 2009, after a few seasons with the San Francisco Giants. Alfonzo can generously be described as a power hitter. He holds a .154 career mark in isloated power generated more strikeouts than hits. Unfortunately, he doesn’t hit enough or walk enough to be a useful major league player. More than half his at bats came in his rookie season of 2006, and it’s been downhill ever since. I would not be surprised to see him out of baseball in 2010.
