If you would like to see Dock Ellis’s LSD no hitter on the MLB network, you might want to sign the petition here. In case you haven’t seen it, there’s an animated short with Dock describing how he came to throw a no-hitter that day. I particularly like the part about Dave Cash telling Ellis he had a no-no, and all the veterans getting mad at him for doing it.
I also understand why MLB doesn’t wish to show this game. The organization is putting out an anti-drug message right now, and showing someone having a great deal of success high may run against that message. Still it would be great to see this game with what we know today. Unfortunately, both Ellis and his catcher that day, Jerry May, both passed away, so the Network could not interview them during the game like they did with Larsen and Berra. Dave Campbell led off for the Padres that day, and as a broadcaster he would be a perfect person to help narrate the game.
