    • We all know what a night out at the ballpark costs. While it may be "priceless", it's anything but that when the credit card bill arrives. A cash advance can help.

Players A to Z, Brad Ausmus

Brad Ausmus caught for the for Los Angeles Dodgers in 2009 and now is a free agent. If he signs with another team, he’ll play 2010 as a 41-year-old. At this point in his career, Ausmus is simply a backup. Ausmus’s future may lie in the managerial ranks, as both Phil Garner and Joe Torre see him succeeding in the role:

Known for his brains, Ausmus has established a reputation as being one of the smartest players in Major League Baseball.

Former Astros manager Phil Garner, as well as Torre, believe he can excel as a big league manager after his playing career. Garner was once quoted as saying that Ausmus will end up being a better manager than him one day.

Torre even let his veteran catcher manage the Dodgers for one game at the end of the regular season.

“There’s no question he can manage,” Torre said early in the 2009 season. “He’s a smart cookie, everybody knows that, and he has an engaging personality.”

Ausmus’s most impressive accomplishment as a hitter are his 34 triples in 17 seasons. That’s third as a catcher from 1993 through 2009, and only 86 major leaguers hit more in that time period. He hasn’t hit one since his three in 2007, however, so the legs may finally be going.
