    • We all know what a night out at the ballpark costs. While it may be "priceless", it's anything but that when the credit card bill arrives. A cash advance can help.

Players A to Z, Mike Aviles

Mike Aviles plays shortstop for the Kansas City Royals. Called up in 2008 during his third year at AAA, the 27-year-old hit extremely well. If you look at his minor league statistics, you see that this wasn’t as much of a fluke as it looked. Aviles’s hitting fell back each time he advanced a level, but giving him experience at a high level brought his stroke back. That, coupled with coming to the majors during his athletic peak, made him one of the outstanding rookies of 2008.

He could not repeat that season, however. He got off to a poor start, went on the disabled list in May with what was believed to be a forearm injury, then ended up with Tommy John surgery at the beginning of July. Don’t really expect him back at full speed in the majors until 2011, when he’ll be 30. Looks like he’ll have a Mark Fidrych career.
