Joel Sherman says the Yankees are trying to get Javier Vazquez.
so the trade is vazquez and boone logan to #Yankees for melky cabrera, mike dunn and arodys vizcaino, that is now confirmed by Post
Really? What makes them think Javier Vazquez will handle New York any better this time? He gives up a ton of home runs, and when he was with New York did not strike out that many batters. I’m surprised the Yankees would be fooled by a career year at age 32. Of course, they might really be interested in Boone Logan, whose K, BB and HR number in the minors are pretty good. This might be one of those deals where the headline hides the real steal, ala Von Hayes for Manny Trillo. The Indians were actually interested in Julio Franco.
Update: Best comment on the potential trade so far.
Update: Second best comment, although I’m still not sure this is a good trade. It’s only for a year, but if Vazquez blows up, Cashman will be accused of making the same mistake twice.
In 2004 he was great in the first half, and than had higher BB, lower K, lower speed and lower arm slot in the second half. It seems like an injury.
It seems that your comment puts too much weight on the mystical effect that New York has on pitchers. How would NY affect Vazquez’s K rate? Doesn’t an injury seem like a much more plausible explanation?
2009 was the best season of his career, but since 2004, Vazquez has averaged about 5.0 WAR/season.
Well, if Damon ends up back with the Yankees, he won’t have to pitch to him.
