Rodney Goes West

Fernando Rodney stands a physical away from a two-year contract with the Angels:

ESPN reports the deal, which is pending a physical, is for two years and worth $11 million.

The 32-year-old Rodney has spent the last seven seasons with the Detroit Tigers. This past season, the right-hander went 2-5 with 37 saves and a 4.40 ERA over 73 appearances.

Rodney never put up that kind of value for the Tigers, so I don’t know why the Angels expect him to come anywhere close to that for him. His strikeout numbers are high, but not overwhelming, and he does walk quite a few batters. Paying him $5.5 million a year seems like he’s getting a huge premium for a being a free agent. I’d rather have Capps at $3 million.
