Mark DiFelice pitches in relief for the Milwaukee Brewers. Amazingly, DiFelice did not make the majors until his age 31 season, despite pitching well in the minors. In majors, he’s struck out 68 in 70 2/3 innings while walking just 19. From what I’ve read, DiFelice never threw hard, but in the majors he has a 14 MPH difference between his fastball and his change. It seems to me the Rockies and Orioles wasted a good pitcher simply because his fastball was in the mid-80s. He changes speeds well, and that’s enough to fool batters.
