There’s a rumor that the Phillies thought of offering Ryan Howard for Albert Pujols:
“Lies,” Amaro told Olney in response to the rumor. “That’s a lie. I don’t know who you’re talking to, but that’s a lie.”
That said, there would be logic behind the trade proposal.
No, there would not. Pujols is two months younger than Howard. If the Cardinals are going to trade Albert, they are going to rebuild and get a boatload of prospects. The Phillies are not going to throw in a ton of prospects in Ryan is in the deal. On top of that, the Cards aren’t that much better off, as they need to deal with a slugger who is more likely to decline than improve. The trade only makes sense if both teams are upset with their sluggers. As far as I can tell, neither is in that situation.

Maybe the source was referring to an impending Fantasy Baseball trade

Trade the best player in MLB for one of the best in MLB? This is a DiMaggio for Williams proposal.

Howard is not as good at Pujols. I’m not sure if there’s another hitter out there I can say that about without hesitation, but Howard is not as good as Pujols. End of discussion.
