Twins Won’t be Trading for Wood

Kerry Wood could be out for two months:

The Indians’ closer, who has a long history of medical issues, could miss two months with a strained muscle in his upper back, an injury that was not initially believed to be serious.

Trainer Lonnie Soloff said Saturday that an MRI exam revealed a “moderate” strain. He said Wood will be out a minimum of six weeks.

While Wood is sidelined, right-hander Chris Perez will take over as Cleveland’s closer.

I like Perez’s 110 K in 98 2/3 innings, but his 49 walks and 13 homers leave something to be desired. He’s still young, but his minor league numbers don’t indicate his control is going to get better.

Chris Perez may never get his control under control but he misses enough bats with high strikeouts and hits allowed, that he may just do fine. Nail-bitingly fine.
