Players A to Z, Chris Getz

Chris Getz played second base for the Chicago White Sox in 2009. During the off-season, Chicago traded him to Kansas City. Getz, in a little over 400 major league plate appearances appears to be a bit below average as far as batting average and OBP are concerned, and way below average in power. As a middle infielder, that’s fine, as long as he can play defense. UZR did not rate him highly in 2009, showing a negative in run prevention. One year, and not even a complete season at that, shouldn’t be held against Getz too much. Some see him as a slick-fielding second baseman, although I’d be happier if they didn’t quote his number of errors in making that determination. KC could use better defense, and if Getz is indeed a wizard with the glove, his offense is high enough above replacement that his defense will make him valuable.
