Players A to Z, Jonny Gomes

Jonny Gomes plays outfield for the Cincinnati Reds. Gomes impressed in his first full season in the majors, playing about 2/3 of the year with an excellent OBP and outstanding power. That age 25 seasons proved to be his peak, however. His power and ability to get on base faded until last year, when he joined the Reds. During that fade, he lost his ability to hit right-handed pitchers. That came back in 2009, as did his power as he slugged .541 in 98 games. As long as he can smack the ball a long way, Gomes should be of use to the Reds.
