The Red Sox put Jacoby Ellsbury on the disabled list.

Ellsbury, who has exhibited only minimal improvement since April 11 when he bruised his ribs in a collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre, has been placed on the disabled list. McDonald, 31, has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, where he was 14-for-41 (.341) with two home runs and eight RBI. Ellsbury is the second Red Sox outfielder to land on the disabled list today, following center fielder Mike Cameron (lower abdominal strain).
