Bomb Threat at Fenway

My daughter just called to say there is a bomb threat at Fenway, and there is a helicopter over the stadium. She lives just a few blocks from the park.

Update: I’ve seen other tweets about the bomb squad going to the park, but there’s nothing on NESN.com. NESN’s pre-game show is showing fans in and outside the park.

Update: No story on New England Cable News either.

Update: Given that no one is being evacuated from around the park, I have to assume this was nothing serious.

Update: Here’s the Globe story. A threat was called in, but nothing was found.

I guess if they could find nothing it’s safe to assume its not serious, unless they were wrong. But what can you do, cancel a ball game? It’s not an airplane flight which can be delayed or cancelled.

Speaking of airports and security. I believe management is now allowing fans to bring in bottled water due to the water shortage in the Boston area. But think of it, fans can’t bring in their own water normally for safety reasons, yet a bomb threat is deemed not serious. Ok.

Of course, not allowing fans to bring in bottled water does help concession sales, so this is probably the real reason. Safety concerns that boost profits are acted on, those that don’t are ignored.

That said, I agree with them on the bomb threat. Never let those who use terror as a weapon to achieve satisfaction, and delaying or cancelling the game would have done just that. Real terrorists that plant actual bombs don’t usually call in the threat.
