John Ely of the Dodges made his fourth quality start in five chances Saturday night as the Dodgers continue to streak to the top of the NL West. They defeated the Tigers 6-4. Ely has not allowed a home run since his call-up, now 31 2/3 innings into the season. This is becoming a great strength of the Dodgers starters in general, as in their last 17 games they allowed just three home runs in 99 2/3 innings. Two of those came off Ramon Ortiz. The top four of the Dodgers rotation is close to unbeatable right now.
So, of course, Kuroda gives up a 2-run dinger in the 1st inning today.
