Standings Math

Geoff Baker notes that the Mariners, because they were swept by the Angels, can’t gain that much ground on first even if they sweep the Rangers four games. Not that it matters. With a team OBP of .316 and a team slugging percentage of .350, the team hits worse than an American League shortstop (.317/.361). I don’t think the chances of throwing four shutouts against Texas are all that good.
