New Career for Mulder

Mark Mulder found a new outlet for his competitive drive. Matt Clark writes:

Former Cardinal’s pitcher Mark Mulder won his second Golf Channel Amateur Tour major this weekend at the Western Open on the legendary TPC Scottsdale golf course. Mulder shot a combined 147 over the two day event. This is Mulder’s sixth victory in nine appearances this year… who said pitchers can’t swing?

The Golf Channel Amateur Tour is the largest amateur golf tour in North America. Mulder took down the Western Open this past weekend (June 12 -13) at TPC Scottsdale after shooting a 70 during round one on the Stadium Course and a 77 during round two on the Champions Course.

Most notable, Mulder won the WESTERN INVITATIONAL at the Sandpiper Golf Course in March, where he shot a combined 147 over the two day event. Other wins include the West Valley Championship at Palm Vally GC-Palms, the Indian Canyon PowPow at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort, the Phoenix Masters at The Legacy Golf Resort, and the Anthem Championship wt the Anthem Golf and Country Club.

Mulder competed against 180 players from Arizona, throughout the southwest and beyond, across 11 flights, in this rare opportunity to play on the legendary TPC Scottsdale golf course. Mulder has now earned enough points to qualify for the Am Tour National Championship, taking place at the TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Players Championship, in September.

Mulder turns 33 in August. I wonder if he might try turning pro at some point.

I can’t find it online, but the Chicago Tribune had a similar story yesterday about former Bull Toni Kucoc, who has a 3 handicap and has thought about trying out as well.
