Getting Rid of a Bad Snell

The Mariners designated Ian Snell for assignment:

To say that Snell has been horrendous this season is an understatement of rather large proportions. He was a disaster in the rotation, and quite possibly an even bigger disaster in the bullpen. In 46 1/3 innings this season, his K/9 rate has dropped yet again, as it has every season since 2006. His HR/9 rate went up a full point from last year, going from 0.87 to an awful 1.94. His groundball rate went down, and his line drive and flyball rates went up, and his HR/FB rate went way up with them.

About the only thing he did well for the Mariners was pitch at home, but it’s difficult to only use a pitcher in one stadium. He showed promise in 2007 at the age of 25, but that proved to be the anomaly of his career, not a sign of a bright future.
