Infield Double

The play by play from STATS, Inc. describes Buster Posey‘s leadoff hit in the bottom of the 11th as an infield double. It’s tough enough for most catchers to earn infield singles! From the game recap:

Buster Posey led off the 11th against Tim Stauffer (3-2) with a groundball double up the middle. Second baseman Jerry Hairston Jr. tried to get to the slow roller before it got to the outfield but deflected it into left-center and Posey hustled into second.

After Pablo Sandoval was intentionally walked, Uribe blooped a single to right and Posey easily scored setting off a celebration for the sellout crowd.

The Padres put men on first and third with one out in the top of the 11th but failed to score as the Giants narrowed San Deigo’s lead in the NL West to 2 1/2 games. Both Posey and Uribe went 2 for 5 on the day, Buster raising his BA to .331 and Juan picking up his 65th RBI, nine short of his career high.
