He hasn’t played since May 20th. He’s played 64 games over the last three seasons. His OBP is well below .300 in that time. He has not one, but two bulging disks! Eric was done a long time ago, but no one will admit it:

Eric Chavez won’t be announcing his retirement today – he said he has his own personal “Brett Favre” rule and will wait until he’s been away at least two years before making any such decision official.

Fortunately, baseball has a way of retiring players who are past their usefulness.
