Shutting Out Jimenez

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched six shutout innings as he tries for his 20th win of the season. Unfortunately, Kyle Lohse has pitched seven shutout innings. In six of Ubaldo’s last ten starts, the Rockies scored two runs or less.

Both pitchers have allowed just three hits. Jimenez walked two and struck out eight as he has his good stuff today.

Update: Ubaldo keeps his shutout intact through seven. I would not be surprised to see Jimenez pitch into extra innings if he can get the win.

Update: Dexter Fowler legs out a double leading off the eighth, taking advantage of a slight bobble in centerfield. The Rockies bunt him to third, but Ian Stewart strikes out in a terrible at bat. The Cardinals then walk Troy Tulowitzki and go to the bullpen to bring in a left-handed pitcher to face Todd Helton.

Update: Tever Miller gets ahead of Helton 0-2. Todd flies out to leftfield, and the game remains scoreless.

Should the Rockies have bunted with Jonathan Herrera? The runner was in scoring position, and Herrera is a .284 hitter. Fowler is fast and can easily score on a single. Why not take two chances to drive him in from second?
