Marlins Keep Their Manager

The Marlins decided to make interim manager Edwin Rodriguez permanent:

Tuesday, Edwin Rodriguez met with owner Jeffrey Loria in New York City, where he was offered and accepted the job to remain in the position he took over in June, when the club fired Fredi Gonzalez. An official announcement is expected Wednesday.

So does this mean that Rodriguez was the best man for the job, or did no one else wanted it? The team was two games under .500 with Fredi Gonzalez, even with Rodriguez. The Marlins offense posted a .260/.329/.405 slash line with opponents hitting .257/.330/.389 under Gonzalez. With Rodriguez, the batters posted a .248/.314/.401 line, opponents .263/.331/.404. In other words, the Marlins offense played a bit worse, and the pitching and defense allowed more hits, but a little less power. So in his short stay, he did little to improve the team.
