The Colvin Win

The Padres and Cubs took a scoreless tie into the tenth, neither team producing much offense. Tyler Colvin came up to pinch hit in the bottom of the tenth with Geovany Soto on first, and delivered a double to end the game with a 1-0 Cubs win. It was the only extra base hit of the game that saw nine singles, a hit by pitch, and three walks combined. Colvin was an unlikely hero, as he came into the game batting just .128, but four of his five hits had gone for extra bases. He had a good chance to drive in the runner from first if he could get a hit.

The Padres came into the day with the fourth lowest runs per game in the NL, and they’ll drop further after this poor performance.
